Instructions for Properly Applying a Vinyl Decal
Thank you for choosing SoKno Kre8tions. Whether this is your first decal or you’re working with a design that’s being a little stubborn, these detailed instructions will help you get a clean, long‑lasting application.
1. Choose Your Location
Select the spot where you want to place your decal. Make sure the surface is smooth, clean, and non‑porous.
2. Clean the Surface
Wipe the area with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and allow it to air‑dry completely.
(Any residue, oils, or ceramic coatings will prevent proper adhesion.)
3. Prep the Decal
Before removing the decal from the backing, use a squeegee or credit card to firmly rub across both the front (transfer tape side) and the back.
This helps the decal stick to the transfer tape for easier application.
4. Remove the Backing
Slowly peel the transfer tape and decal away from the backing, starting from a corner and pulling down at an angle.
If any part of the decal stays on the backing:
Lay the transfer tape back down gently
Rub firmly over that area a few times
Begin peeling again while applying steady pressure
5. Position & Apply
Carefully place the decal onto your cleaned surface. Once positioned, use your squeegee or card to firmly rub across the transfer tape several times.
This removes air bubbles and helps the decal bond to the surface.
6. Remove the Transfer Tape
Peel the transfer tape away slowly, again starting at a corner and pulling down at an angle.
If the decal tries to lift:
Lay the tape back down, Rub firmly, Peel again with steady pressure
7. Let It Cure
Once fully applied, do not wash the area for at least 48 hours. This allows the adhesive to fully bond and ensures maximum longevity.
Tip: When removing the decal from the backing it can sometimes help to place the decal front down an a flat surface and begin to remove the backing rather than removing the transfer tape and decal from the front.
